It’s easy to forget that Madonna is the mother to four children, especially when you watch her music videos or her concerts. She has four, though, ages 19, 15, 10 and 9. A throwback photo of the superstar with her four kids was captioned with “It’s possible to be an entertainer and a good mother. Too bad we don’t live in a society where many encourage strong independent single working moms. The next great Frontier!”

It’s her 15-year-old son who seems to be causing discord lately, though. Madonna’s ex-husband Guy Ritchie is in London and that is where their son is. Apparently, the teen was supposed to return to New York City for Christmas, but he refused to get on the plane. A judge in New York issued an order for the teen to return on Dec. 23, but Ritchie’s lawyer says that the 15-year-old wants to stay in London with his father. Madonna has been trying to get the teen back to New York so that he can continue to attend school there.

Child custody matters can be very emotional and difficult. When it comes to a child wanting to live with one parent or the other, many courts will take the child’s wishes into consideration. When the court gets involved, though, it is the responsibility of the other parent to abide by the court orders. If not, that parent could end up with a ruling from the judge that was not what he or she wanted when it came to custody. An experienced divorce attorney can provide you with more information on child custody and modifications.
