20-year-old parental kidnapping case end with arrest in New York

On June 21, 1992, a man kidnapped his 13-month-old son. For the next two decades, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies searched for the man. Now, 58 years old, the man was arrested on June 12 in New York, according to the special agent in charge of the San Antonio FBI office.

The man is currently being held without bond. His charge is being a fugitive from justice. Authorities say the child, who is now an adult, was living in New York, but where he lives was not released. The police chief of Lorena, New York, said that the man's son does know what happened. He is described as "well and safe."

The man waived his extradition hearing, so he will soon be on his way back to McLennan County.

The man reportedly took his son for a regular, court ordered visit in 1992. He never returned his son to the boy's mother.

For the next 20 years, authorities tried to track the man down, but to no avail. There was no information as to what led authorities to him now.

Parental child abduction is not very common, although when it occurs, the other parent may feel completely helpless. An attorney experienced in child custody cases can provide information about how to proceed. If the child has been taken out of the country, there are several steps that must be taken in order to have the correct agencies involved.

If you believe that your child is at risk with his or her other parent, it's best to have your attorney notify the court to see what can be done to keep your child safe.
